2013 Frolfware Bag Tag League Rules

Have fun and follow the rules and spirit of disc golf.  The purpose of the Bag Tag is to add another fun element to personal, league, and tournament rounds of disc golf. Please display your Bag Tag where others can easily see it.

Getting Started

1. Cost of the Bag Tag is $35. Why is it $35? Yes, this year it is more expensive. However, with more expense comes better and more copious prizes. It also is a full summer's worth of fun and enjoyment. Can you place a price on it? $35 sounds about right.

            A. $15 will go to bi-weekly events and end of year Bag Tag payout for prizes, cash, etc.

            B. $10 will be donated to the North Dakota State Championships

            C. $10 will go to support additional courses/disc golf programs in the area

2. Bag Tag League will be run every other week (bi-weekly), starting Thursday, May 9tg. On  May 9th, we will play a round and distribute bag tags according to the round scores. In event of a tie, tags will be distributed via PDGA number. Schedule, courses, and standings will be given at: www.frolfware.com/bagtag. Bag Tag will be held on Thursdays this year, but will have other days of the week sprinkled in.

3. Bag Tags will be available at Rock 30 Games after May 9th. ONLY CASH WILL BE ACCEPTED!  Tags will only be available at Rock 30 after the first night -- I will not touch them. When you pick up your tag, you will need to fill out the required information sheet and then you will be good to go.

4. To be eligible for end of year prizes/tournament, you must make at least 6 weeks of Bag Tag League. If you are unable to make it on "official" league nights, you are still encouraged to participate and grow the sport. It is always fun to have a challenge waiting around the corner.

The Goal

Your goal is to have the lowest numbered Bag Tag possible and have fun along the way.

Rules of Engagement

1.

Members who possess a current Bag Tag may issue/schedule/participate in challenge(s).

2.

*Changed*

A Bag Tag holder may challenge any other Bag Tag holder with a lower number that is within ten (10) numbers from their own Bag Tag (example: #8 can challenge #7,#6,#5,#4,#3, #2, #1) to a round of disc golf. Challenges can be made by any higher number to any lower number, but the challenge is only mandatory if the challenger is within ten numbers. ALL CHALLENGES ARE ENCOURAGED, NO MATTER THE NUMBERS. Step up and take the challenge -- you can earn it back later.

3.

A Bag Tag holder is only responsible for one (1) casual challenge per day. After one casual challenge is completed, the Bag Tag holder can accept or decline future casual challenges. Exception: Automatic Challenges are mandatory and are not affected by casual challenges.

4.

Members cannot avoid challenges by leaving the Bag Tag at home or by concealing your Bag Tag (see forfeiture).

5.

Challenges may be made in person, by telephone or e-mail. When a challenge via telephone or e-mail has been accepted, players can participate in other casual challenges before their scheduled challenge, but must follow through on their first scheduled challenge, otherwise forfeiture will occur.

6.

The player receiving the challenge can choose the course to be played AND must make a “fair and reasonable” effort to be available within 2 weeks.

7.

If the challenger cannot agree to a reasonable time or date for the match within the coming week, the challenge is void and both players may look for new challenges.

8.

Once the challenge has been agreed upon, any changes must be agreed upon otherwise a forfeit may occur.

9.

If the challenger has the lowest score for the round, the tags must be exchanged immediately following the round.

10.

Challenges are on a round-by-round basis; i.e. challenges are for one round only in a multiple round event.

11.

Challenges can happen at any course, anywhere, anytime. No matter the location, if a challenge is given, the round must go on. NO EXCUSES. If you have not completed a casual challenge previously in the day and refuse a challenge, your Bag Tag is automatically forfeited to the challenger.

12.

All challenges are played by the PDGA rules! No extra shots, no doubles, no cheating, etc. This is done in the friendly spirit of competition. Treat it that way! Any Bag Tag holder violating this rule will automatically receive the lowest Bag Tag number.

13.

In relation to #12, all PDGA rules apply. That means no alcohol, no drugs, no loud profanity, no littering, etc. The way this league is going to get recognition is by positive light only. There will be no exceptions to this rule! Please respect these rules, otherwise your tag will be forfeited!

Automatic Challenges (AC)

•    Automatic challenge during any League (FMDGC), Tournament, or Casual/Recreational rounds, if any Bag Tag holder(s) are on your card (in your group).

•    The challenge does not need to be publicly announced or agreed upon before the start of the round--it is automatic!

•    Bag Tag holders may not deny this challenge.

*   If there is a tie at the end of an automatic challenge, players keep their respective numbers, unless the group members agree upon a playoff before the round or upon general          consensus.

Casual Round Challenges (CRC)

Bag Tag holders may casually meet at a course OR agree to meet at a course/time to compete for bag tags in:

•    Head-to-Head (me vs. you) challenges.

•    Group Challenges, where multiple players each put a Bag Tag at stake during the group round (Throw the Bag Tags in a pile and then distribute them after the round according to score).

•    Members may not deny a challenge and then proceed to play a round (see forfeiture).

Proximity Challenges – Event, League or, Tournament Play

Bag Tag members competing in a coordinated Disc Golf event (official or casual) may agree beforehand to compete for Bag Tags while playing in separate cards/groups/divisions for a given round.

Example: “Let’s see who shoots a lower score in Round 1 of the Floodplain Open.”

Exception:

Any Automatic Challenges take precedence over any challenge from another card. You must settle with your current card first.

Wins, Ties, and Exchanges

Q: How do I win?

A: The player with the lowest score at the end of the challenge round earns the lowest numbered Bag Tag among the challengers.

Q: I won, when do I receive my winning Bag Tag?

A: Bag Tags must be exchanged immediately following the round.

Q: What happens if we have a tie?

A: In the event of a tie, a three-hole playoff will be played, starting on the first hole the Bag Tag players played. These holes are sudden death. If the players are still tied after the three-hole playoff, the player who started with the lowest numbered Bag Tag will be awarded the lowest numbered Bag Tag. This may require some sorting in a group challenge.

Rematches

Challengers who have just won, may, but do not have to accept/schedule a rematch challenge from a player that the s/he just beaten unless one of the following occurs:

1.    Either player completes another, separate challenge.

2.    One week has passed

Whichever comes first.

Exception: Automatic Challenges are…..well, automatic and don’t play by casual rules.

Eligible Tags

Members may only challenge members who posses the Frolfware Bag Tag; no other Bag Tags are eligible to participate in challenges. You must have your Bag Tag with you to challenge or accept challenges.

KEEP YOUR TAG ON YOUR BAG AT ALL TIMES!

Forfeiture

Each Bag Tag belongs to the entire club membership and should be accessible to all club members.  Any club member will be required to surrender his/her Bag Tag if:

•    He/She is found to be purposely concealing the Bag Tag, especially with a low number.

•    Refusing and/or “forgetting” to carry his/her Bag Tag, especially to events where members are “likely” to be present.

•    Refusing Automatic Challenges.

•    Generally denying Bag Tag access to other members

*    Negatively tampering with the Frolfware Bag Tag Website

*    Violating PDGA Rules (including drug or alcohol use, loud profanity, littering, etc.)

If you lose your Bag Tag, please report it immediately.  You may then purchase the next lowest number Bag Tag available. Replacement tags will cost $5.00. All replacement money will go toward the Floodplain Open Tournament.

Rules are subject to change and the Frolfware Bag Tag League Overseer(s) will decide all disputes. The Bag Tag Overseer(s) reserves the right to revoke your Bag Tag at any time.

A good point was brought up in an e-mail sent to me earlier today. The question was:

I thought that I read somewhere that there isn't going to be a Floodplain Open this year. Are the fee's for joining and losing tags going to change because of this?

Here was my response:

There probably is not going to be a Floodplain Open this year either. However, I do plan on running at least one event. The reason for that $5 expense built into the bag tag is so that when a tournament rolls around in the area and I run it, there are some funds already in the pot so I can advertise the tournament with added cash and prizes. The fees will not change this year, as the $5 from the origiial bag tag and lost tags will be stockpiled and allotted to a tournament sponsored by Frolfware.

I don't mean to be misleading or make you guys think that I am stealing the money. I do have a purpose in mind. I posted the financial status of the Bag Tag League at the end of last year (in the comments section on the main page I believe) and have kept that money in a safe. That money and $5 from each tag this year and will be put towards a tournament if I run one. If not, it will once again be stockpiled for next year.
